Skiing in Switzerland received a big boost from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, author of the Sherlock Holmes series. Doyle, an avid sportsman, wrote of his pioneering Arosa ski adventure in a British magazine, The Strand, in 1894.
It is easy to see why he was so impressed when you visit the spectacular resort of Arosa which sits at 1800 metres above sea level in a mountain bowl surrounded by high peaks.
The road from Chur to Arosa has a bend for every day of the year so access is normally by train. This is said to be one of the great train journeys of the world and the experience adds a little magic to your alpine adventure.
The hotel is quite literally on the slopes and skiers can enjoy the true ski-in ski-out door step skiing after only a couple of days of experience.
The variety of terrain is perfect for all levels offering easy access for beginners and intermediates and a wondrous amount of off-piste for the more advanced skiers and snowboarders.
