Sauze d'Oulx- Relais des Alpes - Via Lattea

The Accommodation

Set in Sauze's main square, the comfortable Relais des Alpes is in the heart of the action and very much considered one of Sauze d'Oulx's most popular hotels thanks to its family-friendly, relaxed ambience and perfect location to the slopes and the shops.

The hotel offers a hearty hot and cold breakfast buffet, and a 4-course evening meal which is served buffet style. This is perfect for keeping you fuelled during your time on the slopes and the traditional Piedmontese dishes are all served in the cosy hotel restaurant. All dietary requirements are catered for at the hotel with the friendly staff being on hand to advise on the menu.

The rooms are simply furnished in keeping with the hotel and are perfect for families and school groups, offering single, twin, triple and quadruple rooms all with private facilities. The Hotel also offers a small spa with a sauna and jacuzzi to warm up on those chilly days and help relax those muscles.

The hotel is just a short 5 minute walk from the start of the ski slopes, or if those ski boots are giving you too much trouble you can hop on the public bus which stops outside and you will soon be riding up the Clotes chairlift, ready for an snow-filled day on the mountains.

Well-known for its family-friendly environment, proximity to great restaurants, local shops, and attractions as well as excellent TripAdvisor reviews, Hotel Relais Des Alpes makes it easy to enjoy the best of Sauze d'Oulx.

Travel - thoughts?

You can check in after 15:00 on Sunday 31st March and your first meal will be that evening.

Latest check-out is on Sunday 7th April before 11:00 and your last meal will be breakfast that morning.

By coach

Historically we have always organised a coach transfer from the UK through to resort but for this coming year we are not offering any coach transfer. There are a whole host of reasons why this is so, if you are interested please click here.

By air

You can of course book any flight you wish, Turin being the closest airport to resort, Milan Malpensa being the next closest. Flight prices, being high season, can be expensive, but there is a very sensibly priced Easyjet flight available:

  • 31st March  Gatwick / Malpensa     15:25/18:25

  • 7th April     Malpensa / Gatwick   22:05/23:05

At the moment, costs are £165 pp with a bag but will increase as clients book, but even if it goes to £250 pp this is not crazy for the time of year.

If you book this flight I can offer you a great deal for £60 per person to include:

  • Coach transfer 31st March Milan/ Hotel Relais des Alpes departing Milan at 19:30 arriving hotel 22:00

  • Coach transfer 7th April Hotel Relais des Alpes / Milan departing hotel at 16:00 arriving Milan 18:30

  • Complimentary 7th day ski pass and equipment hire as you can ski most of the day

  • Special late check-out at 16:00 on 7th April

  • Complimentary buffet meal at 15:00 prior to coach departure on 7th April

PLEASE NOTE - There is a limit of 50 places available on this transfer, so

  1. Check this flight is still available but do not book it yet,

  2. Complete your Ski Company reservation so you are sure to have a place on the coach transfer,

  3. Go back to Easyjet and book your flight.

In the unlikely event between making your Ski Company reservation and then booking with Easyjet the flight is no longer available you can cancel the coach transfer.

By car

Each year more and more take the option of driving to resort, 625 miles for Calais through to resort, a relatively comfortable day's drive and probably the most cost-effective.

By train

Well, it is supposed to be the age of the train! The fastest trains from London to Oulx take around 8 hours and 43 minutes.  On Sundays, trains leave London at around 09:22, with the last train leaving at around 20:31, trains depart approximately every 33 minutes. From the train station in Oulx it is some 5 miles through to resort, so an easy and relatively inexpensive taxi journey.

The Setting

The Via Lattea is a winter sports area straddling the French-Italian border. Better known to the British as the Milky Way, the Via Lattea covers all the skiing in Sestriere, Sauze d’Oulx, Sansicario, Claviere and Montgenèvre and is the biggest ski area in the Susa Valley with some 400 km of slopes. Situated at the northern end of this ski area, we find the vibrant town of Sauze d’Oulx perched on a sunny plateau.

As well as excellent skiing, the old centre of Sauze d'Oulx, with its cobbled streets, offers an attractive escape from the mountain when the ski legs start to get sore.

Sauze d’Oulx has an enviable winter sunshine record, a fantastic blend of Italian and French cuisine and culture and a backdrop of stunning panoramas making a great base from which to explore the Milky Way.

The Skiing

The skiing and surfing of the Via Lattea (Milky Way) is legendary. With over 400km of of beautifully groomed slopes and a seemingly endless amount of cruisy blue and red runs, it's perfectly suited to intermediate and advanced levels looking to explore new areas.  With a six day ski pass you also get a one day pass to visit Montgenèvre on the French side of the system

Beginners are looked after thanks to the Sportinia area and should definitely take advantage of the excellent tuition on offer. There are enough gentle slopes around to keep beginners happy for the week.
