The Skiing
The two ski areas of Alpbach and Auffach sat side by side in one of the prettiest parts of the Tirol, for years there was talk of linking these two areas and finally, in 2012, with the opening of a new piste and state-of-the-art gondola, they finally did it and the Ski Juwel was born. The result is a medium-sized ski area of 109 kms, ( 145 kms if you include Niederau ), 2 snow parks and 25 cosy ski huts. The skiing in the Juwel is particularly suited to beginners and intermediate skiers with a few black runs of rare quality for the more adventurous.
300 snow cannons provide Mother Nature with back-up, covering 85% of all pistes. Over the years the Juwel has won numerous awards and is now recognised as one of the top ten destinations in the Tyrol. Snow coverage is usually best during March, offering an average snow depth of 111 cms at summit elevation and 51 cms at the base. Price wise, anyone who’s used to the eye-watering prices of Europe’s A-list resorts, the cost of holidaying here is a pleasant surprise, a beer in a mountain restaurant will set you back €3.50 and a proper cooked lunch is about €9.
