The Setting

The Via Lattea is a winter sports area straddling the French-Italian border. Better known to the British as the Milky Way, the Via Lattea covers all the skiing in Sestriere, Sauze d’Oulx, Sansicario, Claviere and Montgenèvre and is the biggest ski area in the Susa Valley with some 400 km of slopes. Situated at the northern end of this ski area, we find the vibrant town of Sauze d’Oulx perched on a sunny plateau.

As well as excellent skiing, the old centre of Sauze d'Oulx, with its cobbled streets, offers an attractive escape from the mountain when the ski legs start to get sore.

Sauze d’Oulx has an enviable winter sunshine record, a fantastic blend of Italian and French cuisine and culture and a backdrop of stunning panoramas making a great base from which to explore the Milky Way.

The skiing and surfing of the Via Lattea (Milky Way) is legendary. With over 400km of of beautifully groomed slopes and a seemingly endless amount of cruisy blue and red runs, it's perfectly suited to intermediate and advanced levels looking to explore new areas.  With a six day ski pass you also get a one day pass to visit Montgenèvre on the French side of the system

Beginners are looked after thanks to the Sportinia area and should definitely take advantage of the excellent tuition on offer. There are enough gentle slopes around to keep beginners happy for the week.
