The Setting

The Via Lattea is a winter sports area straddling the French-Italian border. Better known to the British as the Milky Way, the Via Lattea covers all the skiing in Sestriere, Sauze d’Oulx, San Sicario, Claviere and Montgenèvre and is the biggest ski area in the Susa Valley with some 400 km of slopes. Situated at the northern end of this ski area, we find the vibrant town of Sauze d’Oulx perched on a sunny plateau.

As well as excellent skiing, the old centre of Sauze d'Oulx, with its cobbled streets, offers an attractive escape from the mountain when the ski legs start to get sore.

Sauze d’Oulx has an enviable winter sunshine record, a fantastic blend of Italian and French cuisine and culture and a backdrop of stunning panoramas making a great base from which to explore the Milky Way.

The ski school is relaxed and friendly, the main nursery slopes are up on the mountain at the top of the Sportina chairlift - so you'll get to experience the mountains from the very start. No picnic lunches here, a hot lunch is conveniently provided for all at the Sportina Restaurant by the side of the nursery area.

Skiers can explore the Via Lattea with some 400kms of varied pistes on the Italian side of the system, with a six day ski pass you also get a one day pass to visit Montgenèvre on the French side of the system.
